Tuili della Giara
In a small village at the foot of Giara Plateau wandering past sunburnt houses into little deserted streets searching for traces or signs of the townspeople. Wasn’t an easy job for Angelo Antolino who photogaphed this little community to date unknown. Encouraged by Marco Delogu of the European project to narrate through his photography the ‘revolution of tourism’, the young Neopolitan photographer didn’t lose heart and put to good use all his professional and cultural skills learnt at school as well as his own personal experience and research.
Antolino had to face a tough test stepping into an area overrun by a plethora of seasoned reporters and specialists in the hunt for unusually beautiful images of the island whose fame and position is internationally renowned for its rare beauty Especially among discerning vacationers. The second and perhaps the more difficult of the two was to concentrate his attention on the tiny community rooted on the slopes of the ‘Basso Campidano’, a plateau cut off from the huge flow of tourism, but widely known for its ‘cavallini della giara’ a special breed of ponies whose genetic structure dates back centuries.
Not to be outdone by these challenges the photographer thanks to his talent and sensitivity avoided the usual images of a ‘mythical and everlasting Sardinia’ loved by a hasty tourist, by shooting a series of fresh and genuine interpretations of fine quality.
